Big Rig Crafts Beer with Punk Rock Legends

The Riptides beer, Area 613, available at all upcoming shows

The holidays will be rockin’ this year.

Big Rig Brewery has teamed up with Canadian punk rock legends, The Riptides, to craft a brand new beer celebrating their latest release and tour.

“The Riptides are a great band, and even better guys, so it was a no-brainer to team up with them,” says Lon Ladell, Big Rig Brewery’s co-owner and brewmaster. “Plus, we love supporting local and Canadian talent as much as possible.”

The band joined the brew team at Big Rig in October to make Area 613. It’s a unique ale that uses wheat and malted rye, experimental New Zealand hops, whiskey-soaked orange zest, and a Belgian Abbey yeast strain. It clocks in at 4.7%.

“It’s the tastiest beer in the galaxy!” exclaims Andy Vandal, lead singer of The Riptides.

Area 613 will be available at The Riptides’ upcoming shows, supporting their latest album Canadian Graffiti:

Dec. 16: Ottawa | The Dominion Tavern
Jan. 19: Kingston | The Mansion
Jan. 20: Toronto | Bovine Sex Club

Expect more dates to be released in the coming weeks. Area 613 will also be available direct from Big Rig Brewery’s taproom, as well as their brewpub location at 2750 Iris St. in Ottawa.

The beer release also coincides with Big Rig’s sponsorship of Rebel 107.7’s Band and Brews program, which provides valuable airtime to up-and-coming local talent throughout the week.
