Big Rig Welcomes the 2017 CBAs to Ottawa

Big Rig Brewery, and all of the Ottawa-area brewers, are incredibly excited to welcome the Canadian Brewing Awards & Conference (CBAs) to the Nation’s Capital this spring. This is the 15th annual event, which sees breweries and cideries from across the country come together for the only nationally sanctioned competition of its kind in Canada.

Big Rig hosts the CBAs official party on May 26, which will feature a beer brewed on April 24, 2017 by 27 Ottawa-area breweries. The collaborative pale ale will also go under numerous transformations, as each participating brewery will create a unique cask with the beer for the party.

“This is a collaborative industry and we want the country to taste all of the incredible beer coming out of Ottawa,” says Lon Ladell, co-owner and brewmaster of Big Rig Brewery. “And with Canada celebrating its 150th this year, there’s no better time for the CBAs to be held in Ottawa. The brewing community has done so much for towns, cities and provinces throughout Canada. It will be special to celebrate in the capital during this epic 2017 year.”

The brewing community’s impact is undeniable: The overall industry has created 11,685 jobs and $975M in wages; 1 in every 100 jobs is supported directly or indirectly by the beer industry; beer sales generate $5.8B annually in government tax revenues.

Closer to home in Ontario, just our craft breweries alone have created more than 1,500 brewery jobs and 6,000 indirect jobs—the broad impact of which creates more than $600M annually.

The CBAs take place from May 25-27 in Ottawa.
